EIGHT ELECTRIFYING MINUTES by K.W. Peery

In the
late night
HBO glow
of our
19 inch
Chromacolor
Zenith

I watched
Marvelous
Marvin Hagler
defend his
undisputed
middleweight titles
against Thomas
The Hitman
Hearns

It was
eight of
the most
electrifying
minutes
an eleven
year old
country boy
could possibly
witness

N'
how in
the hell
did a fight
so short
have such
a lasting
impact
on me
for more than
thirty-three
years
I guess
it's the
relentless
intensity
I witnessed
that night
in April of
Eighty-Five

When
two men
went to war
with one another
knowin' full well
no ringside bell
could save
them
