says one of the
twenty-thirty-somethings sitting
in Starbucks watching a man
writhe on asphalt
after he just got hit by a car
“at least he didn’t die,”
parrots another, crystallizing
their new tagline,
their new sympathy cards,
their new self-esteem methodology,
their new iPhones in hand
with Instagram pulled up
instead of dial pads
